Dr. Donaldson was born in Missouri. He spent his elementary and high school years in Grants Pass, OR where his father was a dairy farmer. His early interests were athletics, singing and spirituality. He financed his undergraduate education by singing and by working in Oregon sawmills. In college and graduate school, he held various student body offices. He has been in private practice in Denver since 1972. His professional interests have focused on the integration of spirituality and psychology.

He has a son and four daughters, ten grandchildren - and counting. In addition to his private practice David and his wife Faith Donaldson work as a therapy team with couples, and lead retreats on spirituality.
